Demoted because I have a small team

Hi May,

Yesterday I was supposed to have a follow-up with my manager about my performance evaluation rated as junior for managing a team of 3 people while also performing other project leadership roles. In the managing the team role I was given the lowest level, junior,solely because I manage only 3 people. Experience wise, I am a manager for technichal topics for 6 years and 3 years experience in leading a team.
My manager wants to demote me only because I have a small team and told me is not related to my performance..I find that hard to believe. No feedback was received from my manager during the year about my performance or his expectations of me in this role. I know from my team that he and another manager talked about merging my team with her team which was with 6 people larger..at that time I thought it was a missunderstanding but now it turns out he and her had a plan but choose not to communicate that to me. This is only a fraction of what and how my manager treated me( micromanaging me, constantly checking my activity by texting me, always changing naratives at 121 meetings, no interest in knowing me as a person and my skill set).What adivice can you give me?
